APPG: Feb 2011

The APPG on Hospice and Palliative Care held a joint meeting with the APPGs on Cancer, Brain Tumours, Breast Cancer, Kidney Disease, Men’s Health and Ovarian Cancer in February, at which the Minster for Care Services Paul Burstow was asked about services for people with cancer.

Our Vice-Chair Baroness Julia Neuberger challenged the Minister on the government’s plans for meeting the needs of people with long-term multiple conditions at the end of life, an area of increasing concern as people live longer and die at an older age.

The Minister confirmed the importance of maintaining a joined up approach to meeting a person’s needs, in line with the personalisation agenda. He said that the government were fully supportive of the 2008 National End of Life Care Strategy and committed to increasing the momentum behind its implementation. He recognised, however, that there was still a lot more to be done.
