Circulatory & Respiratory Conditions Policy Group

This policy group was established in February 2005 and until recently was chaired by Dr John Mount, NCPC Trustee who retired in September 2998. The group is currently looking to recruit a anew Chair for the group. Lead staff input is provided by Emily Sam, supported by Alice Fuller.

Following some good progress on addressing the palliative care needs of people with heart failure, this policy group has now split into two. Heart Failure and Renal Policy Group will still be a group looking specifically at heart failure and renal disease but now there is a new group looking at chronic respiratory disease to start influencing the policy and practice direction. Recruitment of members to this group has been very successful with all key areas of expertise represented and the first meeting held in June 2007. The group is chaired by James Beattie, NCPC Trustee and Consultant Cardiologist; NHS Improvement (Heart Failure) Clinical Lead.

NCPC have produced a one page summary of their publication A Fresh Approach: Palliative and end of life care for people with Chronic Respiratory Disease (November 2008). This sets out some of the key findings from A Fresh Approach and alerts people as to how to purchase the full version. The summary is designed to be of particular relevance to generalists working with people with CRD. We would be grateful if you could pass the details on to any of your relevant contacts.
