Comment on social care ombudsman's report

The National Council for Palliative Care has commented on today's annual report from the Social Care Ombudsman.

Claire Henry, Chief Executive of the NCPC, said “Social care has a vital role to play in supporting people at the end of their lives, and needs to be properly funded and well managed. Otherwise, many people near the end of their lives end up back in hospital, which may be against their wishes and increases pressure on already stretched healthcare resources. It's essential that people's social care needs are assessed quickly so that they get the support they need as soon as possible. We only have chance to get it right for people at the end of their lives."
