Education at St Christopher’s Hospice

The Education Centre is at the heart of St Christopher’s mission to promote and provide hospice care of the highest standards to all those in need. We achieve this with direct patient services, education and training for others and comprehensive research into the needs of patients, their families, friends and carers. We have an extensive library and bookshop.

Dignity and choice in the end of life care: the role of social workers

28 April 2010

ORT House Conference Centre, London NW1

Pavilion supported by SCIE, BASW and Shaping Our Lives

Ensuring that people can experience dignity and choice in end of life care is a target for all. Research with people receiving end of life care indicates that many wish to have the choice to die at home, and if that is not available, for their end of life care to be delivered in a setting which is respectful of their wishes and provides dignity

This national conference is the first of its kind and will focus on the unique role which social workers have in facilitating the fulfilment of the intention to provide choice and dignity.

Call for Papers

Call for Posters

Plenary Speakers:

  • Dr. Michael Kearney
  • Dr. David Oliviere
  • Jim Wilson
  • Dr. Ruth Sewell
  • Rev. Tom Gordon

Kaleidoscope is an annual event, hosted by St. Francis Hospice, giving members of the Irish and International health care community an opportunity to explore issues related to palliative care. The overall theme for 2010 is “Connecting and Caring in Palliative Care”.

During the conference, our speakers, along with the delegates, will explore issues related to connecting and caring in palliative care. Connecting is a concept integral to palliative care – connecting with patients, family members, interdisciplinary team members – and also the deeper level of connecting with people at whatever “place” in their lives we find them.

The variety of topics presented will invite us to reflect on connecting and caring in palliative care practice on many levels, across the lifespan, from national and international perspectives and experiences.
